Finding the light indoors

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of meeting with an absolutely amazing photographer, Liz LaBianca (seriously…check her out).  She is my inspiration!  I’ve always followed her work and I knew she was known for chasing the light, so I’ve been trying to do the same.  Lately, I’ve decided to really challenge myself and start looking for the light indoors.  I am a natural light photographer, so indoor photography has always scared me a little.  I’ve done newborn sessions in home only using natural light, but I always make sure to place the baby in front of a large window.  Large windows and open blinds are such an obvious way to find the light indoors, but Liz inspired me to find the light in places that I might usually miss.  For instance, my back door faces the east and every morning there is always this beam of light that pours onto the floor from underneath the shades.  I don’t think I would have ever given that light a second thought.  Actually, that light probably bothered me because it always shined a spotlight on the dog hair floating across the floor!  However, I realized that it was a beautiful beam of light and sure it highlights the dust and dog hair, but it can also be used to highlight some much cuter things that can be found crawling across the floor.  😉
